This area of North Suffolk has many things to do. It is an area full of pretty villages, open heaths, marshes, estuaries, quiet beaches, fascinating wildlife, thatched churches, bird sanctuaries, country houses and castles, and wonderful walks. It is only 15 minutes to Beccles where the Norfolk Broads start. The beach at Covehithe is only 2 miles from the house – it is one of the few beaches in the country where when the tides are right you might find amber! There is a lovely walk to the Benacre Broad where there is a hide for bird watching. At the start of the walk is an interesting ‘church in a church’.
Southwold is 5 miles away – it is a quaint town that has hardly changed for the last century – and does not see the need to change now. It has an acclaimed beach, old buildings, many restaurants, and a museum, a church of architectural importance, a brewery, interesting individual shops to browse in and many good restaurants.
There is a lovely walk from Southwold to Walberswick
– you have to take the passenger only ferry to get to Walberswick
– but there is a good pub - 'The Bell Inn' - when you get there
to revive yourself in before walking back. It is possible to get to Walberswick
by car but you have to go inland and then back to the coast on
another road. 
The renowned Minsmere Nature Reserve is only 15 minutes away. It has a modern visitor centre, bird-watching hides, nature trails and guided walks. The avocet has been successfully reintroduced here.
If its culture you want than Snape Maltings are only 25 minutes and Aldeburgh, with its festival, is only 30 minutes away – and some of the concerts are held in Blythburgh Church which is only 10 minutes away.
There are many good museums in the area – the nearest being a transport museum; the one at Dunwich is very interesting and there are more in Southwold, Thorpeness and Aldeburgh.
This is an area that has not been spoilt by the 20th
century and is well worth exploring. The attractions of the area are too
numerous to mention in entirety – just come and find out
for yourself.
